What To Expect at Your First Visit to High Desert Dental

We’re so excited that you’ve chosen to visit our practice! Learning what to expect at your first dental visit can help you feel more prepared and confident going into your appointment. If you have any additional questions about your upcoming visit, don’t hesitate to reach out to our office. We value an open line of communication between doctor and patient.
What a Typical First Visit Looks Like
Your first visit to High Desert Dental will involve one of our dentists and a few members of our staff. No matter if it’s been six months or six years since you’ve been to the dentist, you’ll experience a compassionate, judgment-free zone where we’ll look at your smile and determine next steps.
We’ll start your appointment by having you fill out patient forms, if you haven’t already. These forms help us understand your dental and medical history, as well as relevant insurance information. We may take dental X-rays, scans, or images of your teeth to get a deeper view of what’s going on. If you’ve experienced any pain, discomfort, or irritation, be sure to mention this to us so we can diagnose any problems and present you with treatment options if applicable.
Your gentle dental cleaning will be performed by a qualified dental hygienist who will also check for any gum disease or other problems. You’ll also see one of our dentists, Dr. Trista Pottenger or Dr. Katelyn De La Montanya, who will speak candidly with you about your oral health and next steps.
Interested in Invisalign®?
If you’ve ever wanted to get a straighter smile without brackets or wires, ask us about Invisalign during your first visit! High Desert Dental is the #1 General Practice Provider of Invisalign in Idaho, and Dr. Pottenger has treated thousands of patients with clear aligners. Your first Invisalign consultation is on us.
What To Bring to Your First Dental Visit
There are a few simple things to remember to bring to your first appointment. Please bring your ID, insurance card (if applicable), and method of payment. We have several financing options to make treatment more accessible. Before your appointment, please fill out your patient forms, which include insurance information, previous dental records, and past X-rays if you have them. Bring a list of any supplements and medications you take as well, especially if you are interested in conscious sedation.
How High Desert Dental Stands Apart
You may be used to seeing a dentist where you feel judged for your oral hygiene habits or previous experience with dentistry. That’s not the case at High Desert Dental! We know that every patient has a unique history with dental care, and our goal is education, not belittlement. Our judgment-free, all-women office is a safe space for all patients, even if it’s been some time since your last appointment or dental cleaning.
